Easton is one week old!!
I can't believe that is has already been one week since our roller coaster ride began!! On Thursday, I was an emotional wreck!! I cried over everything and especially whenever I thought about Easton. Poor Scott didn't know what to do with me :) I decided though that it was because the day that Easton was born I was totally calm and was not emotional at all... and now a week later everything hit me and I couldn't control it... but it was good for me and now I am fine!!
Easton is doing great!! He has gained 50 grams since yesterday.. YAY!!! It is like half of an ounce, but it is great for him. They have gone up to 17cc of milk per feeding, before he was at 16cc, and the add a special oil to the milk to give him more calories to fatten him up :) They are still keeping him on the bililights until his bilirubin level can stay down and more controlled. He was off for half a day and the level went up so they turned the lights back on... but that is normal so no worries.
So all in all he is doing great and we couldn't be more grateful to the nurses and doctors that take care of him!!
We will keep adding more pictures of Easton as we take them, and so if you want to check ever now and then, they are in Album #1. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and your support... we couldn't have gotten through this without you all!!!

I just barely read about your whole ordeal. I am sorry you have had to go through all of this. 2 months early? WOW! And only 2 lbs, that is amazing. Good luck, your family will be in our prayers. It sounds like you are doing pretty well inspite of it all. That is great.
Teisha, I also just barely found out. I am so glad to hear that things are turning up. What a story!!! I love Dr. Neisbitt too!! He delivered Makenna. Good luck in the future we will pray for Easton.
Hey Teisha, I just found a link to your blog! What a little miracle Easton is!! I couldn't even imagine(nor do I want to) what you are going through right now. A seven pound baby makes me nervous! It is good to see that things are getting better!
My sister works at circle of life, she used to be Jeds nurse, she loves it there and has told me how great it is that they have that equipment in all the rooms, how much it helps to detect problems when they wouldn't have otherwise.
Good luck with everything, you have such a cute family! We'll keep you in our prayers!
Hey Guys!! Just want to let you know that we are thinking of you. Little Easton sounds like he is progressing each day...thats so great. Let us know if there is anything we can do for you. We'll be there. Luv ya.
Wow, it feels more and more like the first week of Scott's life. He was down in SLC having a 8 hour operation right after he was born to find all his pieces and parts. I was home being strong. After a time of that all the emotion finally caught up with me and I was a wreck too. Then you go through the guilt thing about feeling bad when they are doing so well. He was definately our miracle baby as Easton is both of yours. All I feel is praise be to God. I am overflowing with gratitude for such a miracle & marvelous blessing in both Easton and in Scott. We love you all.
Teisha,
I had no idea until today. I am so sorry that this had to happen, but I am glad to hear that everything is going ok. When do they think Easton will be able to come home? Hang in there! We will be praying for you.
Teisha, OH MY HECK. I was just checking out some blogs and thought "I haven't checked on them in a while" and came to your blog, I was SHOCKED To see pictures of the baby! I'm so sorry to learn he is so early, but SO SO SO Glad things are going well, that can be so scary, but he looks great and it sounds like you have had awesome health care! Good luck with everything and know that we are thinking of you. And Congratulations on the little guy (no pun intended...)

NICU milestones are SO much different than baby milestones! So congrats because I know how exciting it is especially upping the feedings!
He is really doing great. I can't imagine how hard this must be for you but your family is so close and I know you will only grow from this experience. I love the chart you added so we can see how he is doing on weight. That is great
Oh, I can so relate. My 28 week preemie is now 6 months, and closing in on 13 pounds! I am thrilled that you have already taken so many pictures of your little man. It was difficult for me to want to take pictures, he just looked so miserable. But once I came to grips with my new reality, I realized I had already missed out on some of the opportunity, as these preemies typically grow so fast. If no one has told you yet, expect ups and downs...two steps forward, one step back. In the long run, progress is being made. In the short run, you sometimes wonder. Believe it or not, your life will not always be in the NICU. And when it is over, you will likely at some point somehow miss those days. Perhaps it is because of how precious life becomes, or how much you yourself will grow and learn, or for the unique opportunity to stare into the eyes of a miracle each day. It's a difficult road. But it's a sweet one too, and one that doesn't come around for many of us. So, do what you can to 'enjoy the journey!' Although the next couple of months will be long, before you know it 'the rest of his life' will be underway, and these pictures you have posted will all but be a memory. Meanwhile, expect both good days and bad. You'll be in our prayers as well. And that's a good place to be! --Shanda Riggs (friend of Carl and Melanie Whiting)
Oh- a couple more things...take several of his diapers home with you to keep forever and show to everyone. I bet I'll still be pulling that thing out to show to others, when my son is a grown man getting married. : ) Also, take home his bili goggles, and the tiniest pacifier he uses. It will really help the pictures come to life, and show just how small Easton once was!
Today is the 2nd week of Easton's birth. Congratulations! He is above birth weight! Dad and I are in Kiribati right now. We met a woman who had her baby over here 2 months early and it weighed 2.5 lbs. Because of the problem with the hospitals on this small atol she took him home and he is absolutely fine now. She wants me to see her son and get pictures for you. She says he is runninig all over and really doing great. I just can't believe that she was able to take him home but the conditions here are not good at the hospitals. We also just met the pioneer of the church that brought it over from Tonga and started sharing it with everyone. Now there are 10,000 members in this very tiny country. The most third world country we have been in. We are so happy for you all. Drop us a email to give more details. Love mum and dad
